Born in Greene, New York, he earned a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and was an Associate Professor of painting there from 1955 to 1966. He also taught at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, Cooper Union, and the School of Visual Arts in New York. His residence has been in Jeffersonville, New York.
