The sculptor Ear; Cummings was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1876, where he later worked as an apprentice wood carver helping decorate the Mormon Temple. In 1896 Cummings moved to San Francisco, California, and attended the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art on a scholarship. He studied under Douglas Tilden there, developing his sculpting techniques.
Cummings was able to study in Paris, France, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts with help from his benefactor, Mrs. Phoebe Hearst. After four years o (showing 500 of 1375 characters). |
