| | Born in Monrovia, CA in April 1889. Chess studied at the College of Fine Arts at USC and at UC Berkeley. She taught art at Monrovia High School from 1914. A spinster and lifelong resident of Monrovia, she died there on April 2, 1952. Working in a flat, illustrative style, she produced landscapes of the area around her home.
