This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Francisco, CA on Jan. 4, 1908. Cadogan was a member of the Lucas family for whom Lucas Valley in Marin County is named. After graduating from Berkeley High School, he studied at Marin Jr. College (1934-35) and on a three year scholarship at the CSFA. He was active in the local art scene and a resident of Berkeley during the 1930s. Cadogan was studying in the atelier of S. W. Hayter in Paris at the outbreak of WWII. During the war he served in the Phillipines as a Seabee. He received his B.A. degree from San Francisco State University (1947) and M.F.A. degree from the CCAC (1950). From 1947 he headed the art department at College of Marin where Cadogan Hall is named in his honor. He died at Ross (CA) General Hospital on Nov. 30, 1983. As an artist, his interests were divided between painting and stoneware pottery. Member: Marin Society of Artists (pres.); SFAA; SF Potters Ass'n (pres.). Exh: Oakland Art Gallery, 1937; SFAA, 1937; Paris and NYC, 1939.
