Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| Painter, etcher, teacher. Born in NYC on Oct. 31, 1893, the son of artist John Califano. As a child Eugene learned to paint in his father’s studio and by 15 was an accomplished painter.
He returned to Italy in 1910 and further studied with Califano studied with Capuano, Celentano, Borgoni, and Giardiello. He was badly gassed while in the Army in France during WWI. After the war, he lived in Chicago until 1924 and for healthy reasons, then settled in Los Angeles. He died in Phoenix, AZ in May 1974.
