This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Würtemberg, Germany in 1830, Eugene Camerer studied at the Academy of Würtemberg before voyaging to the U.S. in the late 1840s.  When gold was discovered in California, he sailed from New York to San Francisco in 1852.  Unsuccessful in mining attempts, he moved to Stockton where he was a sign painter and portraitist.

His views of Stockton, Yosemite, Mt Shasta, and San Francisco were lithographed by Kuchel & Dresel Company.  Leaving California in 1862, he returned to Germany and lived in Stuttgart until his death in 1898.

Exhibition:
California State Fair, 1857.
