Fletcher Carpenter was the son of Edmund Janes & Lydia Etta (nee Snow) Carpenter. He is a descendant of William Carpenter, the immigrant, who was born 1605 in England and who settled in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA.
F. H. Carpenter studied at the Massachusetts School of Art, Ernest Major and was an art teacher at East High School in Rochester, New York and at R.I.T. during the war. He was a member of the Rochester Academy of Design and served as once as the Vice President of the Rochester Art Club.
