| Minneapolis, Minnesota native Frederic D. Calhoun was born in 1883. He studied art at the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis School of Art. He later traveled to New York, where he studied with the Art Student's League on a scholarship in Illustration.
Calhoun worked for a number of years as a commercial artist, muralist, and instructor in Minneapolis. Several of his easel paintings are of the area lakes in Minneapolis and the North Shore of Minnesota. Calhoun died in 1956.
