This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Frederick Daniel Crandall was born upstate New York in 1859. He owned and operated a photography studio on main street in Canandaigua, NY where he exhibited the paintings of his teacher; Charles Wader. He eventually sold the photography studio and concentrated on his art full time.
He rarely left Canandaigua, but his name and talent grew. He was exhibited as far away as Concord, Massachussettes. He painted many local scenes of the rolling hills, quiet streams, and of course the jewel of the Finger Lakes; Canandaigua Lake. He died in Canandaigua in 1921-painting until his death.
