Frederick Hatfield Clark — painter of portraits, landscapes, Paris
scenes, rivers, and boats — was born in Trenton, NJ in 1862 and died in
Vineyard Haven, MA in 1947. He lived and worked in New York City
and Trenton.
Clark studied at the Art Students League in New York City and, in 1894,
at the Académie Julian in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens (1838-1921).
Clark's exhibitions include the Art Institute of Chicago in 1889; the
National Academy of Design from 1896 to 1900; and the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia from 1898 to 1900.
Eight of Clark's portraits are listed in the Collection Catalog, Portraits in the State House & State House Annex,
in Trenton, NJ. He is also represented in the collections of the
Cape May County Historical and Genealogical Society, Cape May Court
House in New Jersey; and the University of Michigan Museum of Art in
Ann Arbor, MI.
Special Note: The Smithsonian has his birth year listed as 1861, but Davenports and Who Was Who... has it listed as 1862.
