| Abigale Lois Cleaves was born in Illinois on April 1, 1894. "Gale" Cleaves settled in Los Angeles in 1920. In the early 1930s she worked as a commercial artist and as a muralist for the Public Works of Art Project. She later became a civil engineer for the Los Angeles County Highway Dept. A spinster, she died in Los Angeles on Nov. 29, 1970.
Works held in public places: LA Central Library (mural).
