|  George Ayers Cress (1921-2008)
Born in Anniston, Alabama, he earned a B.F.A. from Emory University. He served as President of the Tennessee Arts Council and from 1951 to 1984, was painter in residence at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
George Ayers Cress died on January 1, 2008 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
