| Gordon Knowles Carter was born in St Louis, MO on March 7, 1902. While living in Los Angeles during the 1920s, Carter worked in the art department of the Times while studying at the Chouinard Art School and with F. Tolles Chamberlin, Clarence Hinkle, and Lawrence Murphy. By 1936 he was in Webster Groves, MO and was active there until 1944. He died in Chicago, IL on March 5, 1991.
