Biography from Red Raven Gallery:
| Heather Carisch is an amalgam of sorts. A former ski racer, she is strong and bursting with energy. Yet, it doesn''t take long to notice a vein of tranquility running deep in her being. A combination of these elements are unmistakeable in her artwork. Bold colors and fluid lines, layered with glass give her works a life of their own.
"I want my work to have that life force that''s not blocked by the mind or by human experience and expectation."
Carisch attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado where she earned her BA in art and in business. It was during her ski racing career at WSC that Carisch began to use the meditation that has become essential to her life as an artist. Initially, the meditation work helped with knee problems and the mental aspect of racing, but she soon began to apply this technique to other aspects of her life.
Nature, as well as artists like Kandinsky, Frankenthaler, and de Kooning have played an important part in the creation and direction of Heather Carisch's artwork. Her works are bold in appearance and indicative of rapid execution, her work expresses the artist''s neverending quest for absolute inventiveness. The structure of her work usually appears as a violent staccato composed of intense thrusts, though in some works tranquility seems to reign.
