This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A figure, portrait, genre, and landscape painter, Isaac Caliga lived both in Salem and Provincetown, Massachusetts, and was born in Auburn, Indiana.

He studied at the Art Students League in New York, at the Cape Cod Art School with Charles Hawthorne, and in Munich, Germany with William Lindenschmidt. In the United States, he was a member of the Society of Independent Artists, a group that espoused more modernist techniques than were then acceptable at the American Academy of Design.

His portraits are in numerous public buildings including "Portrait of H.F. Waters" in the New England Historical and Genealogical Society; "Portrait of Matthew Robson" in the Salem YMCA; "James B Colgate" at the New York City Chamber of Commerce; " Gov. Alexander H. Rice" at the Massachusetts State House; and "Rev. Alfred W. Putnam" at the Danvers, Massachusetts Historical Society.
