| John Joseph Casey was born in San Francisco, CA on May 4, 1878. Casey studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute followed by study at the ASL of NYC and with Benson and Tarbell in Boston. In 1909 he went to France for several years to further study with Laurens at Académie Julian. While there, he joined the Foreign Legion to fight for France during WWI. Returning to NYC in the 1920s, he worked there as an illustrator of national magazines until his demise on April 26, 1930.
