The following information was submitted in April of 2006 by Terry Carpenter: Born in southwest Missouri, Janet Carpenter attended Missouri Southern State College in Joplin MO, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art. Following graduation, she relocated to Kansas City MO.
A visual artist working in oil, color pencil, graphite, etching, lithography, and monoprint, her works include stylized interpretations of local and national architectural landmarks and rural landscapes stemming from interests in travel and architecture, and scenes from places she has lived or visited.
Her drawing "Western Auto Building - Kansas City MO" was chosen for the 21st Annual River Market Regional Exhibition in July of 2003, juried by Debra Singer, Curator of Contemporary Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Curator for the 2004 Whitney Biennial. "Afloat - Beaver Lake/Rogers AR" was displayed at the Overland Park Convention Center as part of the 2004 Art at the Center Juried Exhibition, juried by Preston Jackson, professor of sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her works have been exhibited at Coffee Girls, Kansas City MO (2005); the Kansas City Artists’ Coalition Open Studios and the Unitarian Gallery, both in Kansas City MO (2004); the Sprint Open Studios Preview and Art at the Center, both in Overland Park KS (2004); the artCentral Architectural Show in Carthage MO and the River Market Regional Show, Kansas City MO (2003); Cottey College, Nevada MO (2003); Shellie's and artCentral, Carthage MO, (2002); the artCentral Member's Show (2002, 2001); and the Kansas City Artist's Coalition Annual Benefit Auction (2000, 1999).
A member of ArtCentral Gallery, Carthage MO; and the Kansas City Artists’ Coalition, Kansas City MO, she has been featured in American Art Collector, Volume 1, Book 2, Central States (Alcove Books, Berkeley CA, 2004); and Art Source, The Guide to Kansas City Artists (Kansas City Artists Coalition, 2004).
