This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Jerome Connor (1876-1943)
Jerome Connor, born in County Kerry but raised like Andrew O'Connor in Massachusetts, arrived at sculpture via commercial stone cutting. Returning to Ireland in the early 1920s at the age of 50, Connor rapidly became involved in the fine art of the new Free State, executing portraits of leading politicans as well as designs for the new coinage.
Although most noted for his Lusitinia Peace Memorial in Cobh, County Cork, his bronze sculpture of Robert Emmet is one of the classic statues of Irish Nationalism.
