| | Born in Illinois on Jan. 30, 1883. Comstock was active in Carmel and Los Angeles as both physician and etcher. During the years 1921-26 he served as the director of the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles, an institution specializing in Indian cultures. In 1923 he was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Indian Affairs. As an artist, he was most active before 1920 and in 1927 published Butterflies of California. He died in Del Mar, CA on Dec. 26, 1970. | Source:
