| John Clayton is a Plein-Air painter who lives in Provincetown, Massachusetts (2008). It is here where he finds much of his inspiration. While Clayton was studying at the Art Students League in New York he and a friend decided to visit Cape Cod. John felt instantly at home. While in New York, John won several awards including, Mrs. Roberts Forbes Scholarship, The Arthur & Melville Phillips Scholarship, and an honorable mention from the Academy of Fine Art Students Exhibition in 1998. "It was great to have had the experience studying in New York but Provincetown was the place where I was able to put color together and really learn about seeing nature." Clayton was given a rare opportunity by Lois Griffel the Director of the Cape Cod School of Art to monitor and study at the historic studio. The Cape Cod School of Art gave him the opportunity to study with great teachers including, Cedric and Joanette Egeli, Hilda Neily , Robert Longely and Lois Griffel. During this tenure he absorbed many crucial elements of Plein Air painting. "In my paintings I am forever exploring nature, its constant changes and the objects that dwell within it ."
