This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| John Cobb works in the plein-aire tradition of American landscape painting. Cobb's perennial subjects are stormy Gulf coast seascapes and vine-tangled blackberry groves along the banks of the Texas Colorado. Numerous works explore the limestone escarpments of the hill country around Austin, Texas.
With tactile and untamed surfaces, Cobb's pictures reflect his intuitive feel for this rugged country and its delicate textures of rock, sea, and sky. His travels have also taken him to New Mexico and down into old Mexico, to the bio-preserve of El Cielo, places with similar light and color in their landscapes. These artistic pilgrimages have produced paintings, which present a unique vision of the unity and mystery of the natural world. John Patrick Cobb was born in 1954. He lives near Austin, Texas.
