Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1949, Caggiano received his B.A. from Brooklyn College and a MFA from the Pratt Institute. He furthered his studies through courses at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. He paints in the plein aire approach with a bright and colorful palette in an impressionism/realism style. He relocated to Cape Ann in 1980 and has maintained a gallery in Rockport, Massachusetts from 1981- on. Caggiano was the President of the Rockport Art Association from 1991 to 1993 and served on its board of governors for 16 years.
He believes color is the lifeblood of the painting and captures the essence of time and place with the bold and dynamic use of color. He has also done stage design from off Broadway, New York City. to Gloucester, Massachusetts. Mr Caggiano travels and paints extensively both in the U.S. and abroad.
He has been featured on international television from Good Morning America to Televisione Italiana. He is affiliated with the Rockport Art Association, Academic Artists Association, North Shore Art Association Gloucester, Boothbay Harbor Arts Foundation, International Society of Marine Artists to name a few. His art appears on the covers of several books and magazines such as Monhegan:The Artist's Island.
He has won numerous awards such as the Bernard Corey Award 2008 from the Academic Artists Association in Springfield MA,the Guild of Boston Artists Award,the Beverly De Mont Award,the Roger Curtis Award and the William Meyerwitz Award.
His works are in the collection of the Bank of America, NYNEX, the Firestone Collection, Papa Gino's of America and many others
