This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Joseph-Pierre Picot De Limo elan De Cloriviere was born in Broons, Brittany in 1768. He fled France because he was accused of an attempted assassination of Napolean and emigrated to America in 1803. Once he arrived he began work as a miniaturist in Savannah, GA (1803-06) and Baltimore, MD (1806-12). Cloriviere was a pastor in Charleston, SC (1812-1818), however there is no evidence that he painted in Charleston.
He eventually became a chaplain at The Visitation Monastery (a monastery of nuns of the Visitation Order) in Georgetown, DC, where Cloriviere lived, worked and eventually died there on September 29, 1826.
He did sign his work as de Cloriviere or Picot.
