This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Francisco, CA on Aug. 6, 1870,  Kate Chandler Thomson  (Thompson) was the daughter of Lucius Thomson who was a partner of George C. Shreve, a jeweler. She studied art locally during the 1880s and established a studio in San Francisco at 932 Sutter Street. She was active in the art scene in both San Francisco and San Diego until 1914.

Just before the outbreak of WWI she moved to a studio in Paris. While there, she helped manage a bureau for reception of refugees until the armistice. After the war she moved to London where she illustrated for Selborne Magazine and other English periodicals. Her exhibition in London in 1932 was a great success with a sale to Queen Mary.

She became well known in London for her watercolors of floral miniatures, portraits, and scenes of Paris, Rome and London.

After surviving the bombings in London during WWII, Thomson returned to California in 1946 and died in Mill Valley on March 28, 1948.
