KENNETH CADWALLADER
As a boy Kenneths artistic ability was something of a novelty. He was recognized for his artistic talent at an early age, but without direct encouragement he abandoned a serious pursuit of art in favor of a more traditional career path.. At the age of twenty, Kenneth reconsidered and decided to practice art full time.
Kenneth studied illustration at Kendall, an exclusive private college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While in attendance at Kendall, he was also invited to study at the Royal College of Arts in London. When in London he not only met his future wife, he also found the direction he wanted to take his art. Struck by the pure and simple beauty of representational impressionism, he immediately knew that was the direction he wanted to pursue.
After graduating from college with honors, Kenneth moved to Chicago where he attended the Palette and Chisel Academy in order to further his understanding of impressionism. Shortly after arrival, Kenneth was dis-covered by a respectable Chicago Gallery and so began his professional career.
After a year of training and experience in Chicago, Kenneth was invited to study with a small group of painters alongside Richard Schmid. With little hesitation, he packed up his belongings and moved with his fiancee to Loveland, Colorado. During the year he worked with Schmid, Kenneth improved his technique substantially and really began to understand what he needed to say in his art. He also learned the importance of painting exclusively from life.
Kenneths paintings are a strong combination of color, value, drawing and edges. He has derived his style from the influence of painters whom he admires, masters he has worked with and an unmistakable element that comes from deep within himself. Kenneth strives to convey his vision to the viewer, inviting them to share the sheer wonder he experiences while painting.
Presently, both Ken and his wife Krista live in Southwest Michigan and actively participate in the creation of art, enriching their own lives and sharing this enrichment with others.
