This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A native of Kansas, Louis Copt first studied art in high school as the student of Jim Brothers, a nationally recognized bronze sculptor. He continued his studies at Emporia State University and after a working in a variety of fields he decided to move to New York City and study at the Art Students League.
Copt returned to Kansas to paint full time and while primarily a landscape painter he has found his inspiration in the controlled burns of the Kansas prairie.
