| Lucy Grosvenor Chapin was born on January 18, 1873 in Syracuse, New York. She was the daughter of Edward Livingston Chapin and Mary Grosvenor Allen Chapin. The artist was named after her maternal grandmother, Lucy G. Allen. Although few details are known of her early education, documents indicate that that she studied art at Syracuse University between 1894 and 1898. Thereafter, she was the recipient of the Hiram Gee Fellowship, which enabled her to study abroad for two y (showing 500 of 6682 characters). |
