This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A Colfax County pioneer's son, Chapman grew up in Raton, New Mexico. He was designated to do the eight New Deal murals at the Shuler Theatre, a series that shows trails blazed and towns created by the early settlers, stagecoach routes and railroad tracks.

Chapman also lived in Taos and finally moved to California. He is well known for his woodcuts and paper batiks. He taught other WPA artists and other aspiring students in Raton. (From: "Treasures On New Mexico Trails" by Kathryn A. Flynn)
