| Earned a BA at Carleton College. Studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and with Lyonel Feininger, Josef Albers and William Stanley Hayter. From 1937-45, Balzer was Assistant Director of Berea College in Berea, KY and then moved to New York City where she was an art instructor at Swain School of Art from 1948-50.
