From a 1913 newspaper clipping:
"Algona woman gains fame.  Mary Em Call Perkins, Daughter of Algona Pioneer, becomes famous in Paris as a landscape painter.  Word comes to Algona of the great success of Mrs. Mary Em Call Perkins as a landscape painter.  Mrs. Perkins, who has been spending most of her time in Paris of late years, has been honored by having one of her pictures hung in the famous French Salon.  A number of Mrs. Perkins' pictures have been sold to wealthy people in California, and one is to be exhibited in the exhibition of the Public Art Gallery in Los Angeles.  The fame of Mrs. Perkins pictures is well established and her work commands high prices."
