| Mary Suehanna Darter Coleman was born in Fort Worth, TX on Nov. 16, 1893. Mary Darter graduated from Texas Christian University and then studied at the Art Students League in New York City under Bridgman, Mora, and Carlson.
From New York she returned to Texas as an art instructor at Midland College, Texas Christian University, and Phillips University in Oklahoma. After her marriage to painter Harvey B. Coleman in 1925, she settled in Los Angeles. Among those with whom she further studied are Edgar Payne and Jack W. Smith. Mrs. Coleman died in Los Angeles on Dec. 17, 1956. Her work includes portraits and landscapes.

| Raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Mary Coleman became a painter known for her outdoor landscapes, although she also did portraits including Indians such as "Seminole Chief." Most of her early landscapes were from Texas, but she also painted in Oklahoma and Woodstock, New York, and from the mid 1920s, painted in California. She exhibited in Fort Worth, Phoenix, Arizona; and in California with Women Painters of the West, Artists of Los Angeles, and the California Art Club.
