This biography from the Archives of AskART:

The following was submitted by Eugene Clapp:

Maud Millicent Greenwell Clapp was born in Kealakekua, Hawaii in 1913. She graduated from Stanford University in 1936 and afterwards attended California School of Fine Arts and San Francisco School of Design. She studied with Armin Hansen in Carmel, CA and later in Nantucket, MA with Philip Hicken and Frank Swift Chase. She also studied figure and portraiture with King Coffin in Boston.

Millicent often signed her pictures Mili as an anonymous neutral identity for judging purposes in exhibits. The subjects of her oil, pastel and acrylic paintings were located primarily in Hawaii, California and Nantucket, as well as throughout the greater Boston area and numerous travel destinations.

Millicent belonged to the Wellesley (MA) Society of Artists, the Wellesley Arts and Crafts Guild and the Nantucket Artists Association where several of her paintings are part of their permanent collection. She showed her paintings in group exhibitions in Massachusetts at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Copley Society of Art, the Marblehead Art Association, the Kenneth Taylor Galleries (Nantucket) as well as in other local and regional exhibitions.

Millicent died in 2001 in Boston, Massachusetts where she lived for over fifty years.
