This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Known for her murals and stain-glass windows, Maude Cowles was also a painter and illustrator whose work included Hawthorne's "House of Seven Gables" and illustrations for "Scribner's" and "McClure's" magazines.

She, along with her twin sister, Genevieve, was born in Farmington, Connecticut, and they had parallel careers. She studied at Yale University and exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1900 and the St. Louis Exposition of 1904.

Genevieve and Maude did several mural decorations including ones for Christ Church in New Haven, Connecticut and Grace Church in New York City.
