| The following is provided by Sue Sellars Rice, Curator of the Sellars Collection in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Sellars Collection has AGED WOMAN, a portrait by May Close.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, May Close became a noted portrait painter, active in the Boston area circa 1906 to 1915. She studied with Joseph A. Boston and exhibited in 1907 and 1910 at the National Academy of Design. She also exhibited at Knoedler's Galleries and the Womens Art Club in 1908, and in 1910 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington DC. |
