Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| A painter, Meta Cressey was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 3,
1882. She studied in New York City with William Merritt Chase,
Frank DuMond and Robert Henri. While there, she met artist Bert Cressey
whom she married. She returned with him to Los Angeles in 1914 and
lived at the Cressey ranch until purchasing a large estate in the
Hollywood Hills at 1830 North Sierra Bonita Avenue.
Her lavish flower garden often won prizes from the Hollywood Garden
Club and provided subject matter for her paintings. During the
Depression the home had to be sold and, depressed from its loss, she
never painted again after 1936.
She died in Los Angeles on May 4, 1964.
