This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Raised in Louisiana, Mollie Vining Crowther, a landscape artist and educator, moved to Fort Worth, Texas after marrying Samuel Crowther in 1891.  In 1907, next year she moved to San Angelo, and the following year decided to pursue an art career.  She went to Chicago where she studied at the Art Institute with Edward Timmons and Frank Phoenix.  Then going to St. Louis, she was a student of Kathry Cherry during the summer of 1911, and for a winter in Dallas, she studied with Frank Reaugh.

With Ella Mewhinney Crowther organized the Texas Artists Camp at Christoval in 1922, and she served as the first president.  At Christoval, she took art classes with Charles Rolla Taylor, Jose Arpa, Xavier Gonzalez, Olin and Kathryn Travis, Adele Brunet and Will Henry Stevens.

She exhibited widely in Texas and there was a member of the Southern States Art League and Frank Reaugh Art Club.
