This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Raised in Louisiana, Mollie Vining Crowther, a landscape artist and
educator, moved to Fort Worth, Texas after marrying Samuel Crowther in
1891. In 1907, next year she moved to San Angelo, and the following
year decided to pursue an art career. She went to Chicago where she
studied at the Art Institute with Edward Timmons and Frank Phoenix.
Then going to St. Louis, she was a student of Kathry Cherry during the
summer of 1911, and for a winter in Dallas, she studied with Frank
Reaugh.
With Ella Mewhinney Crowther organized the Texas Artists Camp at
Christoval in 1922, and she served as the first president. At
Christoval, she took art classes with Charles Rolla Taylor, Jose Arpa,
Xavier Gonzalez, Olin and Kathryn Travis, Adele Brunet and Will Henry
Stevens.
She exhibited widely in Texas and there was a member of the Southern States Art League and Frank Reaugh Art Club.
