Olive F. Cole - or Ollie Cole as the artist signed her name - was born
December 25, 1904 in Milltown, Wisconsin. Artistically inclined
from a young age, she played piano with a local group as a child.
She later began designing custom lampshades and was soon offered a
position in a lighting firm in Chicago. While there she began art
studies at the Chicago Academy of Art.
By 1932 she had met
and married Kenneth Cole who was attending the Chicago Institute of
