Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| Painter. Born in Salem, OR on July 2, 1851. Coast studied art in Paris and Rome and with Yewell, Faller, and Thomas Hicks. He spent most of his career in NYC, but, due to declining health, after 1896 he spent winters in Santa Barbara, CA. He died there on Feb. 28, 1931.
