This biography from the Archives of AskART:
|  Pierce Francis Connelly was born in the Southern United States and was raised in England. As a sculptor and landscape painter, he studied art in Paris and Rome and took a studio as a sculptor in Rome about 1860.
He returned to the U.S. in 1876 for a visit and then went to New Zealand where he became a well-known mountain climber and landscape painter.
