In 1925 Regina married Bronson Frey Cooke in Denver, Colorado. The marriage ended in 1930, and the artist returned home until 1933 when she moved permanently to Taos, New Mexico.

Regina Tatum Cookes career in writing took off in 1948 when she became the "key chronicler of art activity in Taos." She worked for the "Taos Star" as society and art editor in 1948. For the next decade she wrote for "El Crepusculo de la Libertad". From 1949 until her retirement in 1971 she was the art and society editor for the "Taos News". She continued her column in the "Taos News" until 1988. She also wrote about Taos for "Artists of the Rockies", "The Golden West" and "Southwest Art".
