In the years following the completion of her Bachelor of Arts degree in painting and etching at the Universite du Quebec a Montreal in 1979, Renee Chevalier pursued and completed a Masters degree of arts in 1988 under the direction of the late Pierre Ayot, artist and art-professor of the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM).
