Born in Los Angeles, CA on Oct. 12, 1918. Caples was educated at Hollywood and Venice High Schools. Opting for an art career, he studied locally at the Chouinard Art Institute and Los Angeles Art Center. He then painted backgrounds for most of the animation studios including Disney, Hanna-Barbera, and Warner Bros. In his leisure he painted a variety of subject matter including landscapes, portraits, historic buildings, and urban scenes. He was a resident of Rogue River, OR where he continued to paint and teach before retiring to Mesa, AZ in 1995. He died there on Sept. 20, 1996. Member: Calif. Art Club; San Fernando AA; Valley Artists Guild; Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League; Medford (OR) AA.

Robert Caples (1918-1996)...

Born: Los Angeles, CA
Studied: Chouinard Art Institute

Robert Caples grew up in Southern California and after graduating from high school in the mid 1930s, he attended art school in Los Angeles.  He then went to work for the Walt Disney Studios producing watercolor background paintings for animated films.

In the 1950s and 1960s, he also did background painting for animated films produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios.  Throughout his career, and after retiring in the early 1970s, Caples also produced fine art and commercial illustrations painted with watercolors and gouache.
