| | Born in Hoboken, NJ on Nov. 14, 1861. Shortly after his birth Cordtz moved with his family to Chicago. He was both musically and artistically inclined at an early age. Following his art study at the AIC, he worked in Chicago as a sign painter. In 1900 he moved to California and settled in San Diego. While continuing in the sign business, he painted landscapes and marines in his leisure. He was a good friend of artist Alfred Mitchell and known in the local art circles, but never exhibited. Cordtz died in San Diego on Dec. 6, 1935. | Source:
