| | Born in Shasta County, CA on Sept. 29, 1874, the daughter of a stage coach driver. Craddock was deaf from age three due to scarlet fever, and attended the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley from 1884-95. At that school she studied art with Theophilus D'Estrella who greatly influenced her future work. After graduation she accepted a position as governess to a deaf boy in East Oakland named Phillips Frisbie Lewis to whom she gave his first art lessons. In 1898 she married Ed Lohmeyer and settled in San Francisco where she remained until her demise on May 16, 1918. | Source:
