| | Born in Long Island, NY in 1842 Sarah studied in Paris with Caesar de Kock. About 1860 she moved to northern California and painted under the name Sallie Beals. After her marriage to artist Howard Campion in 1863, she lived in Sacramento and then divided her time between San Francisco and her husband's fruit ranch in Napa called "Turret Grange." While in Napa she taught at the Young Ladies Seminary. Mrs. Campion died in San Francisco on June 28, 1887 following surgery. Although her works are rare, she is known to have painted portraits, scenes of France, Spain, and California. Exh: Calif. State Fair, 1868-87; SFAA, 1880-87; Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1884-87.
