The Belgian artist Théodore Ceriez was a painter, draughtsman of portraits, interiors, characters, genre scenes and biblical scenes in the Realism and Romanticism style. Originally he painted scenes of civil life in the middle of the 18th century and later contemporary interiors.
He was born in Poperinge on 11 October 1831. After his training at the academies of Ieper and Antwerpen, he lived in Paris from 1854 to 1863, where he trained further in the studio of J.B.Fauvelet.
