| A painter and commercial artist, Van De Witt Copeland was born in
Kentucky and settled in Los Angeles in 1918. He became good
friends with Thomas Moran, noted western painter, and like Moran, made
numerous trips to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Copeland's first
Grand Canyon trip was 1920.
He was a member of the California Art Club and served as four-term president of the Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles.
