The son of engraver Timothy Cole, Walter Augustus Cole had a brief life due to tuberculosis. He is remembered for inventing a color etching process, but its influence was not long range because of the advent of color photography.
Walter Cole lived primarily in England and Holland because his father had a lengthy commission in Europe and England as an engraver of Old Master painting images. Young Cole spent several years studying in France including at the Academie Julia (showing 500 of 866 characters). |
