| Born on March 25, 1857 in Rahway, NJ. After 1881 Chapin worked for Chicago newspapers and as a correspondent for Leslie's Weekly. He appears to have spent the years 1894-96 in Pasadena but did not settle in California until 1905. Two years were spent in San Francisco and two years on a stock ranch near Fresno before moving to Los Angeles. He was head of the art department and a cartoonist for the Los Angeles Times for many years. In his leisure he painted western scenes and took up sculpting (showing 500 of 734 characters). |
