A portrait painter, Willard Cummings was co-founder and President in 1946 of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine. A native of the area and born in Alton where his father was in woolen factory business, Cummings first studied art in Boston and was sculpture student of Anna Coleman Ladd. He also studied with Philip Hale and worked in his studio along with Hale's daughter, Nancy Hale.
Of this experience with Hale, Cummings said: "Well, I drew from (showing 500 of 7371 characters). |
